Daniel Schnurr holds the Chair of Machine Learning and Uncertainty Quantification at the University of Regensburg. Since 2017 he is head of the research group Data Policies at the University of Passau. He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2016, where he previously studied Information Engineering and Management (B.Sc. & M.Sc.). He was a visiting student at the Singapore Management University and the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Daniel Schnurr has worked as a research associate at the Chair of Information & Market Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and has been a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of Internet and Telecommunications Business at the University of Passau since 2016.
Daniel Schnurr has published in leading scholarly journals on Information Systems and Economics, such as Management Science, Journal of Industrial Economics, Business and Information Systems Engineering, Information Economics and Policy, Journal of Competition Law and Economics, and Telecommunications Policy. His research has been funded by governmental and third-party funding bodies. He regularly serves as an organizer of international conferences and is a frequent reviewer for scholarly journals and funding organizations. As an academic consultant, he has contributed to high-profile policy reports on digital markets. He is currently a Research Fellow of the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), a Brussels-based think tank.
Daniel Schnurr pursues an interdisciplinary research approach at the intersection of information systems, economics and policy. His current research focuses on the rules and institutions that govern firms’ and consumers’ access to data. In particular, he analyzes the strategic and economic implications of firms’ data sharing and investigates regulatory rules that can remedy data-driven market power. Moreover, he is interested in consumers’ behavior and decision-making in privacy contexts as well as competition and cooperation between human and artificial intelligence in digital markets. In his research, he uses game-theory models, economic laboratory experiments and agent-based simulations.
